When you are looking for a new and exciting exercise you have to make sure that you are taking the time to explore many options. Going to an exercise class may be a great way to make sure that you are excited about keeping your body healthy.

Pilates is a very common class. While you are taking the time to go to a Pilates class you have to make sure that you take the time to prepare yourself for the class and understand how you will be most successful while taking the class.

Pilates can be very difficult for beginners. When you are a beginner you may want to do some research ahead of time to make sure that you are as successful as you possibly can be when you are in your first class.

Do not get discouraged with yourself when you are in your Pilates class. Instead you want to start by making sure that you are standing tall and keeping good posture throughout each of the exercises.

You have to make sure that you are taking the time to picture your centerline. Imagine a string going through your center and pulling you up from the top of your head to ensure that you are able to keep excellent posture.


Along with keeping good posture throughout the entire class you also want to make sure that you keep your shoulders back and down. In our society there are a lot of people that work all day at a computer and hunch their shoulders forward.

When you are into this habit you have to make sure that you start to incorporate it in all areas of your life. While you are walking, either leisurely or on a treadmill, and sitting at work you should take the time to focus on keeping your shoulders in the right position.

Your pelvis should also have a big effect on the way that you stand and the way that you exercise during Pilates. You should keep everything in front of you lifting upward and everything behind you relaxed and downward.

Trying to keep your pelvic bone lined up with your hip bone is a great way to put your pelvis into the best position. When your pelvis is in this position you will be able to alleviate a lot of pressure on your lower back.

While you are in Pilates you want to make sure that you keep the exercise fun and simple. If you overcomplicate the exercises you can make your first exposure to Pilates very frustrating and you may have a hard time going back to the exercise.


It is normal to be sore when you are just starting Pilates. After you go home do a few quick stretches and make sure that you give yourself plenty of time to rest and you drink plenty of water throughout the following days.

Pilates may be a great way for you to keep your body in shape. Take the time to give new exercise a shot and you may find something you are passionate about.
